Artist's Statement
Currently, my art practice is focused on the intersections and overlaps between motherhood, caregiving, family histories and landscape. I explore this “motherscape” through a wide variety of media including drawing, painting, mixed media, poetry and video installation. While I arrive at much of my imagery through intuition, I also pull from vintage photographs, and I rely heavily on research to inform and guide my work. Research interests include feminist studies, the history of scientific motherhood in America, and hidden mother photography from the Victorian era. Through a mindful artistic practice I gain self-awareness, sensitivity and empathy, which I hope will also be shared with my viewers.
